Fontenergy is founded upon the idea that the only way we will create a sustainable low carbon future is if we literally have energy everywhere. This goal requires a radical change to how we develop the urban landscape, and a similar change to economic models and engagement of the community in the provision of services.

The following core principles guide the approach we take:

1. Reducing emissions is only sustainable if it also results in viable business
2. A solution is only a good solution if you can do the same thing a thousand times to make low carbon energy generation cheaper, quicker and easier
3. Sustainable community energy systems are only sustainable if there is community involvement
4. The less choice people have, the better the levels of service have to be
5. Collaboration is better than competition
6. It is best to focus on what you know
7. Sustainable systems are only possible if you give consumers direct feedback and control
8. Functionality first, output second – distributed energy systems need to work within the context of the built environment we have
9. Aesthetics are crucial
10. Low carbon requires low risk – for these schemes to work they must present a low finance risk to banks
